NEHAWU KZN Statement On The Ongoing Crisis At Ingonyama Trust Board
Monday January 13, 2025
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal notes with serious concern the mayhem that continues to submerge Ingonyama Trust Board, following the Zulu Monarch’s bid to suspend members of the Ingonyama Trust Board.
Workers of the entity are currently barred from reporting to work, as Zulu regiments plan to march to the Trust offices in Pietermaritzburg, amid an ongoing power struggle. This crisis certainly extends beyond mere administrative or legal proceedings but represent a continuation of the entity’s shambles that have resulted in persisting maladministration, financial mismanagement, poor leadership and worsening working conditions of its employees.
As NEHAWU, we won’t stand idle whilst the entity continues to lurch from one crisis to another due to poor governance and administration. We thus call for an urgent intervention by the Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development, Mzwanele Nyhontso, in order to stabilise it and ensure that it functions effectively and efficiently in line with principles of good governance.
