NEHAWU Wishes SADTU A Successful 10th National Congress
Wednesday September 25, 2024The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] wishes its sister union the South African Democratic Teachers Union [SADTU], a very successful and united 10th National Congress starting from today, 25th - 28th September 2024 under the theme: “Mobilizing the consciousness and uniting revolutionary professionals in strengthening foundational learning and functional skills, to advance inclusive and sustainable economic growth in pursuance of a socialist society.”
As NEHAWU, we are looking forward to a congress that will be characterized by robust and in-depth debates on how to strengthen the ability of SADTU to continue championing its aims such as eradicating all forms of discrimination in education and to strive towards a free and democratic system of education in South Africa.
We are confident that the congress will deliberate on a programme of action that will focus on a transformed and decolonized public education curriculum, safety in schools for both teachers and learners, mobilisation of communities to take charge of schools, and campaigning for proper and quality infrastructure in schools.
As NEHAWU, we will await the outcomes of the congress and engage our sister union on a clear joint program to be undertaken in improving our education system which includes amongst others resuscitating the organs of people’s power through an Education Front largely drawn from South African people, the working class and the poor in particular in order to coordinate and campaign for the seven features defined for education in late 80’s for the new South Africa and use them as a yard stick to measure progress on the transformation of education in our country.
Lastly, we trust that our sister union will emerge from this congress more revitalised to gallantly fight and defend the struggles of teachers, workers and the working class. We wish SADTU a successful 10th National Congress.
