NEHAWU On The ICC Warrant Of Netanyahu Arrest And The World Movement Of Democracy Conference

Thursday November 21, 2024

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] welcomes the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant issued against the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu and its former Chief of Defence Yoav Gallant for the wanton killing of Palestinians.

Benjamin Netanyahu is a known Israeli bloodthirsty killer who is responsible for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed against Palestinians, not only since 08 October 2023 but for crimes extending far beyond this period.

The ICC ruled that the “crimes against humanity were part of a widespread and systematic attack against the civilian population of Gaza” and further that “their conduct led to the disruption of the ability of humanitarian organisations to provide food and other essential goods to the population in need in Gaza”. Once in jail, he will be remembered as a champion of the most ferocious hatred of Palestinians who shamefully led the single most brutal campaign of genocide aggression against Palestinians.

We call on the South African government to accept this verdict of the ICC and to ensure it arrests Netanyahu should he set foot in South African land. The government should extend the verdict to all South African mercenary forces who participated in the Israeli Defence Force during this genocidal campaign.

NEHAWU also wishes to condemn the “World Movement for Democracy’s 12th Global Assembly” held in South Africa from 20 to 22 November 2024”. The conference is funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a CIA-linked institution used for regime change and in murderous counter-revolutionary US campaign ever carried out in human history. We support the federation COSATU statement distancing itself from this conference. This position corresponds to many previous COSATU congresses resolutions including the 14th congress which states that “The Alliance Partners should in unison, desist to kneel to the USA’s interests and agenda-setting globally, starting here in the Republic of South Africa” and further that “COSATU should coalesce with progressive forces and trade unions globally to dispel the myth of a world through the lens and barometer of the USA”.

NEHAWU categorically condemns all those who participated in this conference as they willingly promote the daylight subversion of South African democracy and its laws. In this regard we shall use the occasion of November 29 to demonstrate at the US embassy and all its consulates in South Africa.
