NEHAWU Northern Cape Mourns The Passing of DS Aubrey Beukes Regional Secretary, Comrade Enoc Titus NORTHERN CAPE MOURNS THE PASSING OF DS AUBREY BEUKES REGIONAL SECRETARY, COMRADE ENOC TITUS Tuesday June 20, 2023 The National Education Health and Allied Workers Union [NEHAWU] in the Northern Cape has learnt with great sadness the passing of DS Aubrey Beukes Regional Secretary, Comrade Enoc Titus. Comrade Titus passed on in the early hours of today, Tuesday 20th June 2023.

NEHAWU is deeply saddened by his death and conveys its deep and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and comrades in the Mass Democratic Movement (MDM). We wish his family strength and courage during this difficult moment. We dip our revolutionary flag in honour of this selfless leader of workers and the working class in general. At the time of his passing Comrade Titus was serving as the Regional Secretary of DS Aubrey Beukes Region, PEC Member, CEC Member of NEHAWU, SACP activist and an ANC BEC member of ward 4 in ZF Mgcawu Region. Comrade Titus was also an activist for social transformation who understood that society progress through a class-struggle and this was evident with him through his participating in the mass democratic movement in various capacities.

Comrade Titus joined the union immediately after being employed as a nurse in 2004 and immediately became active in the life of the organisation. Due to his activism in the union, he was elected as a Shopsteward in 2009 at the Gordonia Hospital where he worked as a nurse. Comrade Titus also served as a Regional Nurses Coordinator of the union and later in November 2015, he was elected as the Regional Secretary of Ds Aubrey Beukes, a position he held until his untimely passing.

Comrade Titus was a firm believer and activist for universal access to quality health care for all South Africans. He ensured that he actively campaigned for the passing of the NHI bill through his activism in the union. In his honour, NEHAWU will intensify the campaign for the full implementation of the National Health Insurance.

Fredericks Engel wrote on the passing of Karl Marx “His name will endure through the ages, and so also will his work” As NEHAWU we will ensure that we pick up the spear and continue in his memory to fight for unity of the working, an end to exploitation, hunger, unemployment and universal access to quality health care.

Death has robbed us of an outstanding leader of the working class who served the union and workers with distinction.

NEHAWU dips its banners at the passing of its Regional Secretary.

Rest in eternal peace Cde Enoc Titus.

END
