NEHAWU Northern Cape Mourns The Passing Of Comrade Nombulelo Hermans

Thursday January 21, 2021

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) in the Northern Cape mourns the untimely passing of Comrade Nombulelo Hermans.

As NEHAWU in the Northern Cape, we convey deep and heartfelt condolences to the Hermans family, her comrades and friends.

Sis Buli as she was affectionately known, was the former Regional Treasurer and later the Deputy Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Pixley ka Seme region. She was later elected into the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) and Provincial Working Committee (PWC) of the ANC in the Northern Cape. She served two terms as the Mayor of Umsobomvu Local Municipality and later also served as the Speaker of the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality.

She passed on while serving as a Member of the 6th Parliament and served in the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence and the Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour. The duties that she was very passionate was the Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour, which was largely informed by her undying love for the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP). She was a very dedicated comrade towards the struggle of the working class and the poor.

We wish to take this opportunity to reiterate our messages of vigilance to the people of the Northern Cape as the second wave continues to wreak havoc in our province. We call on all citizens to abide by the adjusted Level 3 regulations as communicated by the National Government. Indeed, the country and our province have entered an extremely dangerous period in the fight against this deadly pandemic. We will overcome the pandemic and let’s honour Sis Buli by practising all the safety measures against COVID-19.

We also extend our condolences to all those who have succumbed to COVID-19 in the province. Our thoughts are with their loved ones during these difficult times.
