NEHAWU Leadership To Visit Institutiona Of Higher Learning To Assess Their Statement Of Readiness For Reopening For The 2021 Academic Calendar

The National Office Bearers (NOB’s) of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) will visit institutions of higher learning including Universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Community Education and Training (CET) Colleges to assess their state of readiness for the reopening for the 2021 academic calendar.
Reports from our structures revealed that most institutions are far from being ready to welcome workers and students into campuses. The aim of these visits is to ensure that these institutions will be able to provide a safe teaching environment for our members and workers and a safe learning environment for our students.
The visits to workplaces will be used by the leadership of the national union to check the following:
- Compliance to the Occupational Health and Safety [OHS] Act
- Available stocks of Personal Protective Equipment [PPEs]
- The availability of workplace health and safety committees
- Adequate space for social distancing
These visits form part of a broader campaign by NEHAWU to protect its members and workers against infection by COVD-19. NEHAWU will visit more workplaces in the next coming weeks to ensure that the health and safety of workers is guaranteed and that employers are not recklessly exposing our members to the virus.
The visits are scheduled as follows:
Monday 1st March 2021- President Mzwandile Makwayiba: will visit the Northern Cape Rural TVET College in the Kuruman Campus at 8:30am
- National Treasurer Kgomotso Makhuphola: will visit the Wattville Community Education and Training Centre & Tembisa Community Learning Centre at 10am and the Aaron Moeti Community Learning Centre at 13h00
- General Secretary Zola Saphetha: will visit the Esayidi TVET College – Mzimkhulu Campus at 10am
- Deputy General Secretary December Mavuso: will visit the Kwazanele Community Education and Training Centre in Breyten
Tuesday 2nd March 2021
- President Mzwandile Makwayiba: will visit the Northern Cape Rural TVET College in the De Aar Campus at 8:30am
- 1st Deputy President Michael Shingange: will visit the Mafikeng, Ditsobotla and Lehurutshe TVET colleges at 10am
- 2nd Deputy President Nyameka Macanda: will visit the Ikhala TVET College in Queenstown at 9am
- National Treasurer Kgomotso Makhuphola: will visit the Moepathutse Community Learning Centre and the Mamelodi Community Learning Centre in Tshwane at 10am
- General Secretary Zola Saphetha: University of Zululand Esikhawini Campus at 10am
- Deputy General Secretary December Mavuso: will visit the Nelspuit TVET college at 10am
Wednesday 3rd March 2021
- 1st Deputy President Michael Shingange: will visit the Vhembe TVET college Main Campus in Sibasa at 10am
- 2nd Deputy President Nyameka Macanda: will visit the Lovedale TVET in King Williams Town at 8am
- General Secretary Zola Saphetha: will visit the Elangeni TVET College in Durban at 10am
- Deputy General Secretary December Mavuso: will visit the Umjindi TVET Campus in Barberton at 10am
Thursday 4th March 2021
- President Mzwandile Makwayiba: will visit the Boland College Stellenbosch Campus at 10am
- 1st Deputy President Michael Shingange: will visit the CET Limpopo in Polokwane at 11am
- 2nd Deputy President Nyameka Macanda: will visit the Rhodes University in Grahamstown at 15h30
- National Treasury Kgomotso Makhuphola: visit the Peter Lengene Community Learning Centre in Klipspruit at 10am, Herbert Mdingi Adult Education Centre in Orlando East at 12am, and the PQ Vundla Community Learning Centre in Molapo at 13h00
- General Secretary Zola Saphetha: will visit the UKZN – Westville Campus at 10am
- Deputy General Secretary December Mavuso: will visit the Secunda CET at 10am
Friday 5th March 2021
- 2nd Deputy President Nyameka Macanda: will visit the Buffalo City TVET College at 8am
- General Secretary Zola Saphetha: will visit the Coastal College TVET College in Durban at 10am
- Deputy General Secretary December Mavuso: will visit the Balfour CET at 10am and the Balfour TVET at 13h00
