NEHAWU KZN Signs Recognition Agreement with Ingonyama Trust Board

Friday September, 03 2021

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal has signed a recognition agreement with Ingonyama Trust Board [ITB] on Friday 03rd September 2021, which represents a major victory for the workers employed by the Trust Board.

The signing of the agreement comes after protracted engagements with the employer, who was hell-bent on delaying the conclusion of the process unnecessarily since 2014. NEHAWU KZN convened numerous meetings with the board through its former Acting CEO, Mr S. Gabela, however, the board continuously delayed making additions and sign the recognition Agreement.

The appointment of the new CEO, Mr V. Mngwengwe, ensured that there was a progressive move and parties were able to find each other, hence the recognition agreement was signed. The signing of the recognition agreement between NEHAWU and Ingonyama Trust Board will now strengthen the basic rights of the workers and provide a platform for union to engage with the employer. As from now, these workers will also be guaranteed protection of their interests and improvement of their working conditions, like all other workers where we organize.

Lastly, NEHAWU as a red fighting militant union will continue to fight for improved working conditions for all its members and workers who are at the coalface of service delivery.
