NEHAWU Statement On The Health Campaign

NEHAWU Congratulates SADTU For A United And Successful 9th National Congress

Sunday September 29, 2019

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] would like to congratulate our sister union the South African Democratic Teachers’ Union [SADTU] for a united and successful 9th National Congress which concluded yesterday.

The Congress which was held under the theme “"Claiming our right to have our human dignity and safety protected and respected in pursuit of a decolonized public education" represents SADTU’s unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy and worker control. The fact that SADTU emerges from this congress united further solidifies the affirmation that this is indeed a union that remains a beacon of hope for teachers and a tool to better defend the workers and the working class

NEHAWU will be studying the resolutions and outcomes of the 9th National Congress and we will engage SADTU on joint programmes to be undertaken in defence of workers and strategize on how to improve our education system. We commit ourselves to fight side by side with SADTU for a transformed and decolonized public education, safe schools for both teachers and learners, and school infrastructure that will help teachers to achieve their targets.

Lastly, we hope our sister union will emerge from this congress more revitalised to gallantly fight the escalating scourge of violence in our schools, provide impeccable service to its membership and encourage a culture of reading in our learners. SADTU will at all material times have a reliable ally in NEHAWU who is always battle ready to wage a relentless war in defence of workers and the working class.
