NEHAWU Solidarity To 35 PAME Members On Trail For Defending Workers Rights

Tuesday February 20, 2018

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] which is an affiliate of the World Federation of Trade Unions [WFTU] stands in solidarity with the 35 trade unionist of the All-Workers Militant Front in Greece who are currently standing trial for defending workers’ rights.

The 35 trade unionist who includes the Vice President of WFTU Cde George Perros, Leaders of National Federations and Regional Trade Union Centres, members of trade unions of various sectors are on trial for organising a sit-in at the Ministry of Labour on 30th of January 2013.

The sit-in was organised to defend workers’ rights against anti-labour measures announced by the Greek government along with the troika of the International Monetary Fund [IMF], the European Union [UN] and the Central European Bank.

As NEHAWU, we reject acts of intimidation and union bashing meted against our comrades. We call on the SYRIZA government to desist from these highhanded tactics they are using on these leaders. NEHAWU stands on the side of PAME’s struggle for social justice and the rights of workers. We denounce todays’ court appearance and demand that the government drops all these trumped up charges.
